- German submarine U-79 sank Norwegian ship Havtor 150 miles west of Iceland at 2051 hours; 6 were killed, 14 survived. ww2dbase [CPC]
- British Submarine HMS Torbay rammed and sank a Greek fishing boat being used as a German troop transport 15 miles south of the island of Lesbos, Greece. ww2dbase [CPC]
- British submarine HMS Taku sank German ship Tilly LM Russ in Benghazi Harbor, Libya. ww2dbase [CPC]
- Major General Douglas Wimberley took over command of British 51st Highland Division from Sir Neil Ritchie who moved to a staff appointment in British Eighth Army. ww2dbase [AC]
- USS New Mexico departed Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. ww2dbase [New Mexico | CPC]
- The Brazilian steamer Ozorio rescued the last eleven survivors from the US freighter SS Robin Moor (Captain E. W. Meyers), that had been sunk in the South Atlantic on 21 May by U-69 (Kapitänleutnant Jost Metzler) while carrying contraband aircraft parts. ww2dbase [AC]

- Sir Staffrord Cripps, the British envoy to Moscow, returned to London for consultation, but his departure left a suspicious Joseph Stalin assuming that Winston Churchill (who he distrusted) might be preparing some Byzantine move designed to leave the Soviet Union isolated to face any possible Nazi invasion. ww2dbase [London, England | AC]
