• The husband of Violette Szabo, Étienne Szabo, died from wound sustained in combat at Qaret el Himeimat, Egypt during the Second Battle of El Alamein. ww2dbase [Violette Szabo | CPC]
• General Georg Stumme, temporarily in command of Panzer Army Afrika in Erwin Rommel's absence, died from a heart attack after falling from his car while conducting a reconnaissance of British positions at El Alamein, Egypt. • About 80 miles northeast of Karakelong Island, Dutch East Indies, submarine USS Spearfish fired three torpedoes at a 4,000-ton Japanese cargo ship but scored no hits. ww2dbase [Spearfish | DS]
