- Regional military commanders in Indonesia met in Yogyakarta and elected Jendral Sudirman as the overall commander of the Indonesian Army. Sudirman was a former officer in the war-time Japanese-sponsored Peta militia. Sudirman, who was a better politician than he was an officer, retained his predecessor Oerip Sumohardjo as his chief of staff in charge of army operations. Meanwhile, he immediately called for an assault on British and Dutch forces in Ambarawa. ww2dbase [CPC]
