ww2dbaseIn 1941, the United States government acquired a 554-acre property on the northern coast of Puerto Rico for the building of a US Army airfield. The site consisted of a runway, taxiways, and several buildings. It was used mainly as a training field for units operating P-36, P-39, and P-40 aircraft. It was turned over to the Puerto Rican National Guard in 1956, which operated the field as a training field until 1975. In 1976, the land was given to the government of Puerto Rico. Part of the land was later converted into a park, while the remainder would remain in semi-abandoned status.

During WWII (1945) there was a Replacement Battalion in Camp Tortuguero Puerto Rico that trained and sent Replacements to the 295th Infantry, 296th Infantry and 65th Infantry Regiments. Is there any resources available where I can verify this?
