A fine study of the confusion existing in early carrier design. Triple flight decks were provided for rapid launching of air groups, but the short runs were inadequate for later monoplanes. Eight inch guns are mounted in twin turrets at the forward corners of the middle flight deck as well as in casemates aft. Also note the long trunking from midships all the way aft, to clear boiler exhaust from landing operations.
