Served two-tours in Vietnam 1967/68 1969/70. Never did I ever see an officer with the rank of Colonel in the field, with his boots on the ground.
I'm sure there could have been such an officer, but I never saw one. True heroes of any war are citizen/soldiers.
Politicians talk of Honor and Courage, but its the brave ones who die, the soldiers.
In war there are no unwounded soldiers...
