The clean lines of the Kongo class really stand out in this photo... I've always thought that these 4 ships were the penultimate in interwar Battleship/Battle Cruiser design and philosophy. The combination of Japanese and British design and construction was the best... These four ships actually WERE what the Hood was supposed to be... Powerful and fast ships capable of dishing out long range fire and with the "legs" and cruising range to operate independently or in small groups. In WW2 they were the only Japanese heavy capital ships that could keep up with their fast carriers. Off Guadalcanal in Nov of 42 the Krishima met her match against a truly modern fast battleship--USS Washington.
