LAST ONE ON THE FLIGHT LINE:

The F4U Corsair was in production from 1942 until 1953. The U S Navy retired the last of its F4U-5 Corsairs in 1956. The F4U-5 was armed w/ 4 x 20mm cannons. Surviving Corsairs were given to South American Air Forces, the last ones were retired in 1969/70

CORSAIRS AT ODDS: THE SOCCER WAR

Did you know that during the "Soccer War" between
El Salvador and Honduras, both sides operated the Corsair they were a mix of F4U-4s,F4U-5 and
FG-1Ds.
This was the last combat action of the famous F4U Corsair, in the 1970s, both countries either scrapped or sold them off. Another operator was
Argentina its Naval Air Arm operated the F4U-5NL
until retired in the late 1960s.

AU-1 Corsair s/n 129411 assigned to Aircraft Engineering Squadron (AES-12) Marine Air Station Quantico, Virginia
Looks like Dark Gull Gray upper surfaces with
Insignia White under surfaces. All flight controls were Insignia White, with Black Anti-Glare, all Lettering in black and National markings in standard positions.
