The pilot is Lt. Henry S Huidekoper, with VMF-213 then (I think VMF-222) HSH was not in the Solomons until 1943, so date is incorrect as well.

Thank you for posting this comment. I followed up on your lead and, as you can see, the caption has been updated.

After looking a little deeper into the background of this photo, I have a sneaking hunch this may not be at Munda but Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. I have left Munda in the caption since all sources I saw identify this photo at Munda, but a plane left behind by VMF-122 would have been left at Henderson and while Huidekoper flew from both airstrips, he spent most of this tour at Henderson.

I will look through my memorabilia - I have a copy of HSH's diary from when he was in the South Pacific, perhaps there is some light to be shed by it.
