When the 9th Armoured Division was disbanded in May 1944 its armoured regiments were moved to the 79th Armoured Division until the end of July at which time the 15th/19th Hussars was transferred to the 11th Armoured Division as its armoured recce regiment in place of the 2nd Northants Yeomanry which had to be withdrawn because of casualties in Normandy during August 1944.
