The USS Charger spent almost the entire war in Chesapeake Bay performing carrier qualification landings (CQLs) for the various air groups doing their training in the Norfolk area. The Avenger pilot in this case was Ens John D. Morrison. There were no injuries. The Coast Guard boats were 83-foot rescue boats CGC 83333 and CGC 83335.
