Republic of China Army purchased these US surplus weapons in the 1950s and deployed them to Kinmen and Matsu, ie. front line of defense against Communist China. Although they are considered obsolete weapons, they are nevertheless still active and ready to provide counter-battery fire against Communist guns on the mainland coast. Or, if necessary, fire retaliatory rounds at population centers such as the city of Xiamen.
