The ribbons and stars across the top reflect the awards bestowed upon Tinosa crewmembers while aboard during World War II as follows (L to R): Bronze Star with 23 stars representing 24 total awards, two awards of the Legion of Merit, the Presidential Unit Citation, 4 awards of the Navy Cross, and 13 awards of the Silver Star.

My Dad was aboard the war patrol when LCDR Lawrence Daspit (CO) received the Navy Cross for trouble shooting the flawed torpedoes. My Dad received the Navy Commendation for this same patrol. Both received their medals from Admiral Nimitz.
