McCone was president of CalShip and Bechtel was vice-president, an arrangement that applied only within CalShip. CalShip was a subsidiary of the Bechtel-McCone Corporation with Stephen Bechtel as president and John McCone as vice-president. Somewhere in the management mix was also Henry J. Kaiser. Bechtel, McCone, and Kaiser routinely collaborated on their various ventures with one or another taking the lead position.
