These two men clung to floating debris for an hour and a half before being picked up by USS Waller. This is an official US Navy photograph but the official caption has a few errors. The original caption includes Seaman Kelly’s middle name but not his last name and it incorrectly identifies the rescuing destroyer as the USS Walker, which was in Seeadler Harbor at the time.
