It must have been hard when he knew he would not win and practically all his men would die. And.. he did not buy any appreciable time for Japan. And... even if he had been able to buy time for Japan, what could they have done with it? The end was inevitable.

Interesting topic, Japanese defenders were well trained and intelligent. T. Kuribayashi was a great commander and an important part in Japanese history during WWII.
