My late uncle George McMahon was crew member of USS Louisville. He a Chief Gunners Mate. Its is interesting to learn what he did. He was also USS (?) a Light Cruiser. In which fought at Midway.

My father. Ch. Mach. John H. McElroy, was assigned in 1931 to report for temporary duty at Puget Sound "in connection with the fitting out of U.S.S. Louisville and on board when commissioned..." He stayed with it until March 1934. I am wondering what "fitting out" involved. I also have a photo of him on board a ship in the 1930s and am wondering if anyone would be able to confirm that the ship was the Louisville. It seems not possible to attach the photo here, but I can send it on request to anyone who might be interested.
