The 21st Anti -Tank Regiment RA, part of the Guards Armoured Division consisted of four batteries; two of towed 17 Pdr guns amd two with 17 Pdr M10 Achilles SP guns. Each battery had three troops of four guns, but since the towed guns were difficult to manoeuvre and typically took from 12 -18 hours to dig in to prepared positions they were usually used as a "long stop" while the self propelled batteries engaged enemy armour at closer ranges.
