funny name for a bomb. They were so paranoid back then naming it a bomb would probably attract enemy spies.

Funnily enough, by this time the Russians, using Klaus Fuchs, David Greenglass and Harry Gold among others, had already stolen most of the information they needed to jump-start their own atom bomb program...it seems we only keep information from Americans with our needless classification of everything and anything.

I don't think it was an official name, rather it was one that Los Alamos scientists coined for it.

Don is right. The official name for this device was "Trinity" but the Los Alamos scientists came to call it the "gadget."
