In addition to the two XP-61 Prototypes,
thirteen XP-61's were ordered and built.
These aircraft were used for testing, and
delivered during August and September 1943.

In flight photo of YP-61 number 77, taken during summer 1943, aircraft was second prototype did you know that before wars end, the USAAF had 15 Black Widow squadrons, but only about 435 night fighter crews trained

FILE PHOTO: NUMBER 77

YP-61 s/n 41-18877 went on to serve with the 481st night fighting operational training group based in Florida. The 481st trained crews, and was assigned to the air defense of Florida. Did you know that one P-61 cost the American taxpayer $649,584 US Dollars that was a lot of money back in the day.
