The photograph portrays the original prototype of the M1 rifle (T5E2) in .276 Pedersen (7mm) with a ten shot magazine. Douglas MacArthur disapproved of the caliber change, and it was redesigned for .30-06. Top rifle is the Pedersen toggle-delayed blowback rifle. Bottom is the Soviet AVS 1936 Simonov rifle.
