SUPER "A" CRUISER B65 PROJECT: NEVER BUILT
In 1939 the Imperial Japanese Navy laid plans for a super type cruiser with heaver armament, for the "Decisive Battle" against the US Navy in the event of war.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE:
Planned as escorts for the Super Yamato Class these cruisers would have been armed w/9 x 12'' guns mounted in three triple turrets, 8 x torpedo tubes, and been able to survive enemy 8" shells.
Secondary armament planned was 16 x 3.9" dual purpose guns mounted on each side of the ships superstructure with added 25mm and 13mm anti-aircraft weapons. With a top speed of 34knots or 39mph.63km/h it could keep up with the super battleships.
TO KILL A CRUISER:
With Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 delayed construction and later postponed, the B65 super cruisers would have had a similar profile in design as the Super Yamato Class
Battleships. Japan's war situation changed along with its strategic plans...
