Without a doubt the best Japanese CA ever made, although I believe Myoko and Takao have engaged better.

The problem is that the main turrets, only one is in Superfiring, same design error of BB Nelson and Rodney. While this is not a serious problem, this requires more crew effort in a surface combat at elevations of 20 to 30 degrees.

Japan should have done in the BB-style layout Richelieu and CL Ooyodo. Instead of 4x2, it could be 2x3 (6x 203mm / 50) or 2x4 (8x203mm / 50), it would probably save space, and the performance of the "MG" would be more enjoyable.

Japan might have thought better of installing the excellent DP Type 98 100mm / 61 guns, rather than the old 127mm / 40 Type 89
