When I was in country (Vietnam) we would have
M-60 tanks with us on convoy the troop commander had his loud speaker going playing you know "Panzerlied".
I guess Mr. Charles upon hearing that didn't know what to make of it was he fighting the Americans or the Germans, had to beat it down to the underground command bunker and give his report.
THUNDER ROAD: WHEN NOT ON OPERATIONS, I WAS ON CONVOYS.
Convoys in Vietnam we would have M-60 Tanks,
M-42 Dusters w/twin 40mm guns or M-35, M-52
Gun Trucks w/guad fifty caliber machine guns
M-114 APCs, and the Supply Vehicles.
And don't forget the Huey Gunships overhead.

Our 1st Sgt. driving back and forth along the convoy with his 3/4 Truck that was armed to the teeth.
The man was always in front, can you see me now. He was on his forth and last Vietnam tour, next stop retiring from the army and live a quite life in W.Germany.
When the unit was deactivated April 10, 1970
we had a party, we could tell our childern about, as I get into my 60s I look back and
say well done GIs...well done, most of us returned to civilian life, and made our way the best we could.

PANZERLIED: MARCH OF THE PANZER TROOPS
ONE CAN ALMOST HEAR IT...
Since the first organized armies, soldiers
have marched to music.
The Germans had some Nationalistic March music, not as Bombastic as the Yanks, not as Solemn as the Russians, not as dull as the British and not as Feminine as the French.
FOR THE FATHERLAND:
The Germans had a march for all the Armed forces,(Wehrmacht) The Panzer rollen in Afrika, Marsch der Sturm Artillerie, Song of
the Fallschirmjager, The Luftwaffe and the
Kriegsmarine Songs.
The 1965 movie Battle of the Bulge Starring
the Late Robert Shaw, after inspecting the
young panzer troops, Col. Hessler (Robert Shaw) rejected them, saying there boys, all young boys! as he walked away, they all started to sing the Panzerlied, and he had his Panzer troops.
Every Generation had its music the Americans
during WWII, had Swing and Jazz, during the
Vietnam War Rock "N" Roll.
