ww2dbaseNikolai Bazykov was born in Tallinn, Estonia, Russian Empire on 1 Feb 1890 to Nikolai Akimov Bazykov and Aleksandra Egorova; it was also recorded as 20 Jan 1890 in the Old Style. After his father's death, his mother remarried, and he took on his stepfather Aleksei Reek's surname. He graduated from Chuhuiv Military Academy in Ukraine in 1910. He married Marie Clara Reek, with whom he would have two children, Larissa and Tiiu. He graduated from the Imperial Nicholas Military Academy in 1917 and saw action in the final stages of WW1. After WW1, he served with Estonian units briefly until it was dissolved, after which he participated in the para-military Defence League in Virumaa, Estonia. During the Estonian War of Independence, he was the commander of 5th Regiment on the Viru Front. In Jan 1919, he was made the Chief of Staff of 1st Division. In Apr 1919, he was made the Chief of Staff of 3rd Division. In Sep 1919, he was promoted to the rank of colonel and served as the Chief of Staff of Viru Front. After the successful conclusion for the Estonians in the war, he remained in the military and rose in rank, for some time holding the position of the Minister of War in the late 1920s. In 1938, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. Soviet Union occupied Estonia in 1940. He was arrested by the Soviets in 1941 and was executed in Usolye, Perm Oblast, Russia in 1942.
