ww2dbaseHenri-Fernand Dentz graduated from the academy in 1910. In WW1, he worked closely with General Pellé, and after the war he transferred to French colony of Syria in the Middle East. He was recalled to France to lead forces that failed to stop the German invasion. He remained in France and served for the Vichy government, which appointed him as the high commissioner of Lebanon. His reign of the region only lasted until 14 Jul 1941 after the 40,000 troops failed to stop the invasion by British and Commonwealth troops, despite receiving air support from the German Luftwaffe. The armistice was signed at San Juan de Acre.
