ww2dbaseAnnabelle Craft was born in Galesburg, Illinois, United States. When the US entered the Pacific War in Dec 1941, seeing her brother in Canadian aviation service, she also wanted to serve the US in a similar role. During the summer of 1942, while on summer break as a student at the University of Nebraska, she took private flying lessons. After completing her college degree, she applied for, and was accepted, in the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) program, and subsequently graduated with class 44W2. She was stationed at Randolph Field in Texas, United States, flying passenger aircraft that transported officers around the country. After WASP was disbanded, she briefly worked for an advertising agency in Chicago, Illinois, and then joined the Red Cross, working with military servicemen and their families in the American colony of Puerto Rico until the end of the war in 1945. In 1946, she married Arthur Moss and took his last name; they would have three daughters together. Annabelle Moss was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2010.
