Full Title: Bombing Nazi Germany: The Graphic History of the Allied Air Campaign that Defeated Hitler in World War II
Some months ago I flipped through Wayne Vansant's comic book on the Normandy invasion and thought it was a fun way for a bird's eye view of this famous campaign. Last week I came across Bombing Nazi Germany in the same series by the same artist, and found that it was equally enjoyable. Like the previous work, the familiar concise and to-the-point sentences, colorful illustrations, and the overly-dramatic scenes were all there, without sacrifice overly much visually (such as the nuances of the designs of a Lancaster bomber) or in content (less referred to topics such as German nightfighter radar were touched upon). While I thought Vansant's prior Normandy work glorified war a bit, this one seemed to have toned down a little bit in that area, taking note of the horror of being inside a burning aircraft thousands of feet up in the air and the telling the chilling tale of airmen who were thrown out of their aircraft without their parachutes on. Unlike the usual graphic novels, this one perhaps was not created with younger readers in mind due to the violent nature of the air war, but Bombing Nazi Germany should be a good one for instilling interest of WW2 history in teenage readers, and of course a fun read for the young-at-heart.

Too bad we lost the war to communism, Patton was right.
