Full Title: Never Give in! Winston Churchill's Greatest Speeches
"Now the hour had come for him to mobilize the English language, and send it into battle", said journalist Edward R. Murrow as Winston Churchill took on the responsibility of being a war time leader; that description could not be more fitting, for Churchill was undoubtedly among the greatest orators of his generation. Fortunately for us, recording technology of the era allowed us to enjoy his performances today. Never Give in! was a collection of such speeches selected by Churchill's grandson, Winston Spencer-Churchill (more often Winston S. Churchill). Through famous words of inspiration such as "this was there finest hour" and of encouragement such as "the few", along with several lesser known but equally powerful speeches, this collection gave me a glimpse into 1940s Britain where words such as these provided fuel for the people to carry. While the grandson performed the reading to a few speeches where no audio recordings survived (and he performed well at that), those of the former Primer Minister's own voice were spectacular. The speeches were presented in chronological order, ending in the "Iron Curtain" speech delivered in 1946. I enjoyed every spoken word of this audio book, and would give a hearty recommendation.
