17 Jun 1943 | Monterey was commissioned into service. |
3 Sep 1944 | Task Group 12.5 consisting of carrier USS Monterey, cruisers USS Chester, USS Pensacola, USS Salt Lake City, and destroyers USS Cummings, USS Reid, and USS Dunlap conducted a bombardment of Japanese positions on Wake Island in the Pacific. |
18 Dec 1944 | Many ships from the United States Third Fleet, Task Force 38 sailed into Typhoon Cobra in the Philippine Sea. Three destroyers and 790 men were lost. |
21 Jan 1945 | USS Monterey arrived at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for an overhaul and repairs of battle and typhoon damage. |
24 Mar 1945 | USS Monterey departed Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after repairs. |
16 Jan 1956 | Monterey was decommissioned from service. |

Hi There, does anyone remember a crewman named Samuel Brelsford? He was from Belfast originally, then joined the US Navy. i am his grandson in Australia, any help would be great.
