Plunger Operational Timeline

18 Jan 1942 USS Plunger sank Japanese freighter Eizan Maru 23 miles off Honshu, Japan.
30 Jun 1942 USS Plunger sank Japanese ship Unkai Maru No. 5 70 miles southeast of Shanghai, China.
2 Jul 1942 USS Plunger sank Japanese transport ship Unyo Maru No. 3 80 miles east of Shanghai, China.
3 Nov 1942 USS Plunger attacked Tenryu off Santa Isabel Island, Solomon Islands; both torpedoes missed.
12 Mar 1943 The US submarine Plunger (SS-179) sank the 1,805-ton Japanese water carrier Taihosan Maru northeast of Ponape, Caroline Islands at about 0200 hours, hitting her with both of the two torpedoes fired.
