23 May 1939 | USS Squalus sank off the Isles of Shoals in northeastern United States due to the failure of the main induction valves, which flooded the aft portions of the ship. 26 were killed from drowning, 33 were rescued. |
13 Jul 1939 | The stern of the sunken USS Squalus was briefly raised in the Isles of Shoals off northeastern United States, but the wreck would slip under the surface again. |
13 Sep 1939 | The wreck of USS Squalus was raised in the Isles of Shoals off northeastern United States and towed to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, United States for repairs. |
