ww2dbaseIn 1940, the Germany Army issued a new requirement for a new infantry gun to replace the its aging 7.5-centimeter light infantry gun 18 (leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18) design. Krupp answered with the 7.5-centimeter infantry gun 42 (Infanteriegeschütz 42) design in 1942, but in the meanwhile a new shell had been placed in production that effectively prolonged the service life of the 7.5-cm le.IG 18 guns. An order was finally issued in early 1944 for 1,450 units, and the first gun was delivered in Oct 1944. They were typically each married to a Rheinmetal-Borsig gun carriage. Production of this design lasted for less than one year after an unknown number being produced.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
