ww2dbaseThe OVP submachine guns were developed to replace the preceding Villar Perosa (VP) submachine guns. The design began in 1918, and they were delivered to the Italian Army in the early 1920s. They saw service during the Italo-Abyssinian War, and a small number of them remained in service against the British during the Desert War. They were generally withdrawn from front line service after that time.Source: Ian Hogg, The Encyclopedia of Infantry Weapons of World War II ww2dbase
