  • Shortly after midnight, destroyers USS Nicholas, USS Taylor, USS Radford, and USS Strong formed a bombardment line in Kula Gulf offshore of the Japanese airstrip at Vila, Kolombangara, Solomon Islands and shelled the airstrip.
