  • British TF 37 launched 416 sorties, 261 of which were sent against the Japanese home islands and 155 were for defensive patrols; escort carrier Kaiyo was damaged by British carrier planes.   • United States Navy carriers launched air strikes against the Kure area of southern Japan. One F6F Hellcat flying from USS Independence was damaged by cruiser fire near Tanabe Bay and was forced to ditch.   • Casablanca-class escort carrier USS Steamer Bay launched all flyable aircraft (30 planes) for transfer to Orote Field, Guam.
