  • Du Yuming arrived at Chongqing, China, where Chiang told him that Du was to become the scapegoat for the removal of General Long Yun; Chiang would later award him with higher positions for taking on this responsibility. ww2dbase [Du Yuming | Chongqing | CPC]
  • The Chinese Communist central committee ordered its central and northern forces to focus on stopping or slowing the Nationalist troops moving toward northern China. ww2dbase [CPC]
Dutch East Indies
  • The Pemuda PUSA organization in Aceh, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies took control of the Acehnese youth nationalist movement and declared support for Teungku Daud Beureu'eh's anti-Dutch judicial decision (fatwa). Daud Beureu'eh and three other prominent Islamic scholars had described the uprising against Dutch colonialism as a holy crusade (jihad fi sabilillah). ww2dbase [Aceh, Sumatra | CPC]
  • Indonesian nationalist fighters clubbed and hacked 50 Europeans and Eurasians to death as they marched toward Kalisosok Prison in Surabaya, Java, Indonesia. After getting into the prison, with some of the guards turning their backs to allow the fighters to do whatever they wished, 200 Europeans being held there for protect were killed. ww2dbase [Surabaya, Java | CPC]
French Indochina
  • Prince Ratanavongsa Phetsarath of Luang Phrabang formally accepted his dismissal as the Laotian Prime Minister, believing that the newly formed revolutionary government could succeed its anti-French goals without support from the king. ww2dbase [Ratanavongsa Phetsarath | Laos | CPC]
  • The British Supreme Allied Commander in Cambodia, Lieutenant Colonel E. D. Murray arranged for a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Son Ngoc Thanh in the afternoon in Phnom Penh. It was an ambush. At Murray's headquarters, he and French General Philippe Leclerc oversaw the arrest of Thanh for being too nationalist for British and French comfort. Thanh was handled roughly and was not told why he was being detained during the process. Thanh's chauffeur, witnessing his employer being taken away by force, drove off and warned Thanh's colleagues who might also be on the British-French list of targets. Taiwan

Thailand
  • The Thai government arrested former Prime Minister Field Marshal Phibun Songkhram, former Foreign Minister Wichit Wichitwatankan, and others for war crimes. This was seen as a political move to appease the United States and the United Kingdom. ww2dbase [CPC]
