COMMAND POST MEETING
Russian General Vasily Chuikov, garrison commander is second from left, of the 62nd Army at Stalingrad. The other officers are not identified.
The 62nd Army was later changed to the 8th Guards Army, and remained under the command of Gen.Chuikov until the Battle of Berlin in 1945.
After Stalingrad he was in command of the 1st Belorussian front, led the advance
through Poland, several times, his forces covered 40 miles in a single day.
General Chuikov surived the war retired from
the Army in 1972. He was later a consultant
for the Stalingrad battle memorial, and was
buried there after his death at age 82
