ww2dbaseThe St. Étienne Mle 1907 medium machine guns were weapons of a prior era, having seen combat with French forces during WW1 (in which the muddy trenches often led to breakdowns for this weapon), with certain factions in the several series of civil wars in China between 1916 and 1928, and with Greek forces during the 1919-1922 Greco-Turkish War. They were fed from 25-round metal strips or 300-round fabric belts. Although production ceased in 1917, many of the 39,700 produced remained in use for many years to come. When German forces took control of France during the European War, a number of them were captured by the Germans from French forces in the rear; a few were used by French resistance fighters during the occupation. The Germans saw action against a number of these weapons from Greek forces during that country's invasion as well.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
